Worked cost for 4 and 8 people

These totals are our arithmetic on annual billing, before tax.

  • 4 people. Nifty Pro per member: 4 x $10 = $40 a month. Asana Starter: 4 x $10.99 = $43.96 a month. Close to a tie.
  • 8 people. Nifty flat Pro: $79 a month. Asana Starter: 8 x $10.99 = $87.92 a month.
  • 8 people who need time tracking and proofing. Nifty flat Pro still covers it at $79. Asana needs Advanced: 8 x $24.99 = $199.92 a month.
  • 8 people who need intake forms. Asana Starter covers it at $87.92. Nifty's native forms mean the $399 Unlimited plan, or a Zapier form connection on a lower plan.

Asana's pricing page also notes that seats are bought in set increments, so check the seat count it offers before assuming an exact headcount. Use the plan cost worksheet with your own numbers.

One thing each has that the other lacks

Nifty has built-in conversation. Every plan includes project discussions, direct messages and team chat, and a message can become a task. Asana's pricing page lists status updates and more than 100 integrations, Slack among them, but no team chat of its own. Nifty also offers a flat team price, which Asana does not.

Asana has resource management and a deeper entry tier for process. Forms with branching, approvals and capacity planning across a portfolio are part of its Advanced plan, and forms plus unlimited rules are on Starter. Asana also includes a monthly allowance of AI requests per user on paid plans and publishes the price of extra requests; Nifty's pricing table gives no plan or cap for Orbit AI.

Who each suits

  • Nifty suits agencies and client-service teams of 5 to 30 that bill hours, need sign-off on files and want chat and tasks in one app.
  • Asana suits operations, marketing and internal teams whose work starts with a request form and moves through rules, and who already use Slack or Teams for conversation.
  • Two people can stay on Asana Personal for free with unlimited projects, where Nifty Free allows more people but only 2 projects.

If neither fits, the Nifty alternatives page covers four other tools.

Switching from Asana to Nifty

Nifty's Asana importer is started from Import Projects in the workspace menu. You select the Asana projects, match Asana users to Nifty members or invite new ones, and choose whether to bring closed tasks and files. Each Asana project becomes a Nifty project. The help article lists what transfers: projects, task lists, tasks, assignees, descriptions, attachments, creation dates, subtasks, comments and due dates.

Asana rules, forms, custom fields, portfolios and goals are not on that list, so expect to rebuild them. Before canceling Asana, write down open dependencies and decisions in a handover note and confirm a second person can pick up a live task in Nifty.
