Nifty vs Basecamp: the deciding difference
Nifty and Basecamp both sell flat-price plans, but they limit opposite things: Nifty limits members and Basecamp limits active projects. Nifty flat Pro is $99 a month billed monthly, or $79 billed annually, for up to 10 members and 100 projects. Basecamp Pro is $99 a month for unlimited users and up to 25 active projects. Cheaper Basecamp plans are Freelancer at $25 a month (3 projects, 20 users) and Studio at $59 (10 projects, unlimited users). Basecamp's pricing page marks annual billing as unavailable on those three plans; its Unlimited edition is $299 a month billed annually. All prices are as read on 3 October 2026 on each vendor's pricing page.
So a team of 25 running six projects pays less on Basecamp Studio. A team of eight running forty small client jobs pays less on Nifty.

Features only one of them lists
Nifty: a Gantt-style milestone roadmap, task and milestone dependencies, custom fields, if/then workflow automations, budget tracking and file proofing. Basecamp's pricing page lists none of these. Nifty also lists an open API and custom roles on Business.
Basecamp: automatic check-ins and message boards on every plan, including Free. Nifty has discussions on every plan but holds automatic check-ins for Business. Basecamp also says archived projects do not count toward the cap, which stretches a small plan further than the number suggests.
Both include to-dos or tasks, a Kanban-style board (Basecamp calls it Card Table), group chat, a schedule, and docs and files.
Who Basecamp suits and who Nifty suits
- Basecamp suits teams with many people and few concurrent projects, teams that communicate mostly in writing, and anyone who wants the plainest tool. Its storage is tight on lower plans: 25 GB on Studio against 500 GB on Nifty flat Pro.
- Nifty suits teams of up to 10 or 30 that run many projects with dated milestones, need to see what blocks what, bill hours, or want rules to assign and date tasks automatically.
- Growing past 10 people changes the math. Nifty's next step is $124 to $149 a month; Basecamp Pro stays at $99 however many people join.
If visible dependencies are the reason you are comparing tools, map them first with the dependency map; Basecamp will not draw them for you. Small teams comparing more widely can read project management software for small teams.
What a Basecamp to Nifty import carries over
Nifty's help center describes a Basecamp importer started from Import Projects in the workspace menu. You log in to Basecamp, pick the projects, match Basecamp people to Nifty members or invite them, and choose the data to bring. Each Basecamp project becomes a Nifty project.
The listed data is shorter than for Nifty's other importers: projects, task lists, tasks, assignees, descriptions, attachments and due dates. Comments, message board posts, chat history, schedules and check-in answers are not on the list. For a team that keeps its decisions in Basecamp messages, that is the main switching cost. Before you cancel, copy the decisions that still matter into a handover note for each live project, and follow the export and exit checklist. Basecamp refunds the unused part of an annual plan; Nifty will not refund if you change your mind after paying.
